Founded in 1973, we are a locally owned and operated trucking company that has been ready to serve customers’ transportation needs for more than 30 years. Merchants 5 Star, LTD was founded by Jim and Bette Starner in Marietta, Ohio with an additional terminal in Columbus. We have remained family owned and operated ever since. In 2004, Jeff Starner purchased the company from his parents. As both an IntraOhio and Interstate truckload and LTL carrier, Merchants’ hallmark is the ability to offer dependable service to our customers based on the overriding principle of “Honesty and Integrity.” For many years “We can do it” has been our motto.

In 2002, Merchants acquired Marks Transfer in Cambridge, Ohio and opened our third terminal. On March 4, 2006, Merchants merged with Bates Truck Line, Inc. in Lancaster, Ohio. We now operate more than 90 power units and 400 van trailers from our 4 Ohio based terminals. With increased capabilities, we look forward to meeting and exceeding our customer’s expectations.
